Katarina started skating when she was five years old. Her talent soon became obvious and she was accepted into a school specifically designed that caters to children who have a passion for sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. Here she first had a conversation with the trainer Jutta M ller. Witt made her mark by finishing second at the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Her graceful and elegant style caught everybody's eye immediately, and from that point onwards she was dominating the sport. Olympic victory Katarina (now Witt) won the Women's Figure Skating Gold Medal during the Sarajevo Winter Games. The winner of the competition was a more competitive race four years later. The free skating competition, but won the gold medal on her performance during the compulsory figure and the short-form program. Witt is the first figure skater female to win the same competition twice, after Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt, who was a star in the world of film and television as an actress before returning to figure skating in 1994 to compete at Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. Fans were amazed by her despite the fact that she only placed seventh. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by its members in 1995.
